What Is a Magnetic (Hall-Effect) Keyboard?

A Hall-effect keyboard measures changes in a magnetic field to estimate key position. The switch carries a magnet, while a Hall sensor in the keyboard detects its movement. This makes it possible to distinguish how far a key is pressed, rather than only whether a contact is open or closed.

1. Fixed Actuation and Reset Points

Most traditional contact switches have fixed actuation and reset positions. A key must reach its actuation point to register a press, then return past its reset point before another press can register. During repeated inputs, that required return travel can affect the timing.

2. What Magnetic Position Sensing Changes

Continuous key-position measurement can support adjustable actuation and movement-based reset behavior. The exact features and available ranges depend on the keyboard and its firmware. This sensing approach is the basis for Rapid Trigger.

3. How Rapid Trigger Works

After initial actuation, Rapid Trigger can reset or reactivate a key according to its change in travel and the configured sensitivity, rather than requiring the same fixed reset position each time. Activation and release are separate events with thresholds; they are not simultaneous or free of latency.

4. Control as Well as Speed

In FPS, MOBA and rhythm games, suitable settings may make repeated presses, small movement adjustments and release timing feel more direct. Examples include peeking, strafing and stopping movement. The benefit is finer control, rather than an automatic improvement in every player’s performance.

5. Benefits Depend on the Setup

The switch still has a physical mechanism and return movement. Sensor behavior, calibration, firmware, sensitivity and the rest of the input chain still affect the result. A very sensitive setting can also make small unintended movements register. Test settings that suit your hands and the game.

6. What to Remember

Rapid Trigger reduces the need to return to a fixed reset point for every repeated input. It does not remove all hardware limits or replace practice, timing and decision-making. Check your model’s supported features and use settings you can control consistently.
